Poverty is a very real phenomenon in this country and about 13 million people, including 3.5 million children, are estimated to be living in poverty. One charity which helps to relieve poverty is the Church Urban Fund ‘Advent Sleepout Challenge’, where people all over the country take the Christmas story as inspiration to create their own ‘stable’ and give up a night of comfort, sleeping out with friends, family, church groups, clubs and community groups to raise funds for the charity.
Here, at St. Nicholas Church, the vicar and the curate, with some help, built their own ‘stable’ outside the church and slept out in it on the night of Saturday, 5th December, accompanied by four other stalwart individuals.
