Tuesday 24th November marked the 175th Anniversary of the consecration of the current St Nicholas’ Church. Of course, the parish is much older than that, but it still feels like a major landmark, and one worth celebrating.

We kicked off our celebrations on Thursday 26th November, with a Dedication Festival Eucharist at which the Bishop of Lincoln was our President and Preacher. Those who were able to make it enjoyed an inspiring act of worship, as well as a glass of wine and a slice of birthday cake.

We want this to be a year of celebration, though. Among the plans already in progress for the year, Betty Brown will be putting together a display on the church’s history, Penny Foster will be organising a Flower Festival and there will be an Anniversary Songs of Praise. We hope also, within this year, to launch our next major project for the building.

But what do you think? We are very keen to hear from readers of our parish magazine The Messenger and viewers of our website with ideas for how we might celebrate our church’s birthday.  So please put on your thinking caps and get in touch.
